Diablo Cody has confirmed that she is currently penning the script to the long-awaited Jennifer’s Body sequel. 

Speaking over the weekend at the Storytelling 360 screenwriting panel, as reported by Dread Central, the Oscar-winning Lisa Frankenstein screenwriter revealed that she is actively writing the film and that original stars Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried are interested in returning.

The news follows Seyfried’s repeated allusions to a potential sequel in recent years, as well as director Karyn Kusama’s confirmation last autumn that she knows “some of the bones of” the story. The Yellowjackets director told Deadline, “I know some of the bones of it, so I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.”

Speaking to Phantasmag at the premiere of Forbidden Fruits, on which she served as producer, Cody reflected on her time writing the original film as she works on the sequel. “I think I felt the most like myself as an artist when I wrote Jennifer’s Body,” she said.

On several recent press tours, Amanda Seyfried has declared that a sequel is happening. “We’re making another one […] And I’m not doing without [Megan Fox],” she told her Jennifer’s Body co-star Adam Brody in Variety’s Actors on Actors. It may well be a tactic on Seyfried’s part to generate buzz for the film, especially when she similarly told multiple outlets that Mamma Mia 3 was happening before it was confirmed by NBCUniversal Entertainment chairman Donna Langley last month.

Meanwhile, Megan Fox recently captioned a March 16th Instagram post “I go both ways”, in reference to an iconic line from the original film alluding to her character’s bisexuality.
