IFC and Shudder have released the second trailer for the Faces of Death reboot.
The clip reveals the film’s meta premise: Barbie Ferreira is a content moderator investigating videos inspired by the 1978 cult movie of the same name, a faux documentary presenting a series of supposedly real deaths. The film will therefore repeat the original’s “is it real or not?” conceit as Ferreira’s character does what she explicitly tells her colleagues not to when she looks into some particularly revolting videos after hours.
Featuring Ferreira, Dacre Montgomery, and Josie Totah, the new trailer unveils our first look at Charli xcx’s character, who seems to be a content moderator working alongside Ferreira’s protagonist. In her brief appearance at the end of the teaser, she chuckles at a gory video before asking Ferreira’s character, “Wanna see?” with a wicked grin.
“It is the attention economy, and baby, business is booming,” declares Dacre Montgomery’s villain. By grounding the grisly proceedings in the world of online content moderation, Daniel Goldhaber’s Faces of Death pseudo-reboot updates the original’s snuff film allure for the TikTok generation.
Faces of Death hits US and Canada theatres April 10th.
