American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy has teased the return of the witches from Coven as well as veteran AHS star Jessica Lange.
The prolific showrunner has seemingly confirmed that Season 13, which began filming today, will feature the witches from Season 3, Coven, specifically Angela Bassett as Marie Laveau. He responded “Done” to a user on Instagram asking for the fan-favourite characters to return.
In a series of first-look images, Murphy also revealed Lange’s homecoming to the FX horror anthology series for her first appearance in eight years. The two-time Oscar-winning actress, who left the show as a series regular in 2015, appears to be reprising her Season 1 (retroactively dubbed Murder House) role as Constance Langdon.
With Langdon and the witches from Coven looking set to feature in American Horror Story’s hotly anticipated thirteenth season, characters from multiple seasons may return as well. This wouldn’t be the first time AHS has challenged its format of standalone seasons: the first crossover occurred in Season 4, Freak Show, which included Pepper (Naomi Grossman) and Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe) from Season 2, Asylum. Langdon already crossed paths with the witches from Coven in Season 8, Apocalypse, the storyline of which was dominated by a mash-up of characters from Coven and Murder House.
In the new images shared from set, Lange is in an apartment building, reflecting the latest instalment’s working title, Penthouse. Ariana Grande, Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, and John Waters will join Lange in the new season.
