Amazon MGM Studios has released the first trailer for Verity, the big-screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel.
Set to an eerie remix of Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”, the trailer finds Dakota Johnson (Materialists), Anne Hathaway (Mother Mary), and Josh Hartnett (Trap) in a demented love triangle. Unfolding largely at a snowy lake house, the atmospheric teaser promises plenty of blood, sex, and deception.
Accentuating the horror elements in Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name, Verity follows a writer, Lowen (Johnson), hired to finish a book series after its famed author, Verity Crawford (Hathaway), is left incapacitated. But once she moves into Verity’s home, she falls for her husband, Jeremy (Hartnett), and discovers a secret manuscript.
The seductively unsettling clip begins with Johnson’s protagonist straddling Hartnett’s character in front of his incapacitated wife (Hathaway), before Jeremy morphs into Verity and bites Lowen’s lip. The following montage teases a lively, violent psychosexual thriller.
Verity may well be a commercial hit, with the Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried vehicle The Housemaid, another erotic psychological thriller based on a popular book, grossing over $400 million at the worldwide box office.
