Our Most Anticipated June Horror Releases

Your guide to everything from Cape Fear to Scary Movie

by Alex Kaan 31 May 2026

AMC

With Backrooms and Obsession dominating the box office this weekend, horror is enjoying a historic moment in the spotlight.

A stacked June is set to keep that momentum going, with a line-up that includes a sci-fi summer blockbuster from Steven Spielberg (Disclosure Day), a queer horror film from the producers of Talk to Me (Leviticus), a legacy sequel to a beloved parody franchise (Scary Movie), and much more. Meanwhile, AMC’s hit series Interview with the Vampire is revived as The Vampire Lestat, and Cape Fear gets a remake with Javier Bardem stepping into the villainous role made famous by Robert Mitchum and Robert De Niro.

From creature features to British folk horror, we’re counting down the 17 biggest films and TV series releasing this month.

Hungry (June 3rd)

Signature Entertainment

Yes, as in Hungry Hungry Hippos. When a ferocious hippopotamus targets a bayou boat tour in Louisiana, the unlucky group of vacationers (led by Madison Davenport) must fight for their lives in this raucous creature feature. Despite the source material, the film’s tagline makes clear that “This hippo isn’t playing games.”

Scary Movie (June 5th)

Paramount

Joining franchise veterans Anna Faris and Regina Hall, the Wayans family returns to the parody franchise they created — ready to lampoon recent horror hits like Sinners, Weapons, and The Substance while also targeting reboots, elevated horror, and, as the official synopsis slyly notes, “anything with the word legacy in it.”

Cape Fear (June 5th)

Apple TV

Remaking the 1962 and 1991 Southern Gothic psychological thrillers of the same name, which were adapted from John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel The Executioners, this Apple TV limited series follows a vicious ex-convict (Javier Bardem) who vows revenge on the married lawyer couple (Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson) who wrongfully sent him to prison. Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg executive produce.

Carolina Caroline (June 5th)

Magnolia Pictures

On the wider genre film front, scream queen Samara Weaving and scream king Kyle Gallner go full Bonnie and Clyde in this sexy, bloody crime thriller about a couple hustling their way through the American South.

Chum (June 5th)

IFC

When a newlywed couple (Alice Eve and Eric Michael Cole) join their friends on a Mediterranean yacht trip, they wind up trapped on the boat of a deranged fisherman in need of human bait to lure in a bloodthirsty shark.

The Vampire Lestat (June 7th)

AMC

After the first two seasons focused on Louis’ (Jacob Anderson) perspective, AMC’s explicitly queer adaptation of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire returns with a rebranded third season centred on Lestat’s (Sam Reid) rock star career in a bloody, erotic deconstruction of the character as he aims to set the record straight after the release of his ex’s memoir.

The Terror: Devil in Silver (Releasing through June 12th)

AMC

Streaming on AMC+ and Shudder, the acclaimed horror anthology series is back for a third season. In this adaptation of Victor LaValle’s psychological horror novel, scream king Dan Stevens (Abigail, Cuckoo) plays a man wrongly admitted to a psychiatric hospital stalked by a monster. Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body, Yellowjackets) directs two episodes.

Disclosure Day (June 12th)

Universal

Decades after Close Encounters, E.T., and War of the Worlds, Spielberg returns to sci-fi with an alien blockbuster about a whistleblower (Josh O’Connor) determined to reveal a government secret in a race against time. Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, and Colin Firth also star.

Find Your Friends (June 12th)

Shudder

When five hard-partying best friends (including Bella Thorne and Chloe Cherry) leave LA for a sun-soaked girls trip in Joshua Tree, they find themselves in a desert town filled with aggressive locals, and their drug-fuelled fun soon descends into a violent fever dream.

Tales from the Crypt (Releasing through June 12th)

Shudder

For the first time ever, the cult horror anthology series comes to streaming, with a new season releasing every Friday through June 12th. The beloved show features a slew of A-list guest stars, including Brad Pitt, Demi Moore, Michael J. Fox, and Ewan McGregor.

Kraken (June 12th)

Signature Entertainment

In this Norweigian eco-horror flick, a marine biologist (Sara Khorami) investigates a series of strange deaths in Norway’s deepest fjord, only to find the culprit is a legendary sea monster.

Widow’s Bay (Releasing through June 17th)

Apple TV

With an episode dropping every Wednesday, Apple TV’s new horror comedy series follows a tightly-wound mayor (Matthew Rhys) determined to turn his quaint New England island community into a tourist hot spot. But he faces a major hurdle: the deeply superstitious residents keep warning him that their town is cursed.

Leviticus (June 19th)

Neon

In this Sundance horror hit from the producers of Talk to Me and Bring Her Back, two teenage boys (Joe Bird and Stacy Clausen) find themselves stalked by an evil entity which takes the form of the person they desire most: each other.

Rose of Nevada (June 19th)

1-2 Special

When a mysterious boat returns to a coastal British town 30 years after disappearing, two fishermen (Callum Turner and George MacKay) join its crew. But after one voyage, the pair are transported back in time. Mark Jenkin’s dreamy sci-fi folk horror premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

The Voices of Our Mother (June 19th)

Shudder

When a martriach (Sheila McCarthy) survives an unexplainable health scare, her four estranged children are drawn back to their family home to care for her. But as secrets begin surfacing in their grim reunion, they soon discover the cause of her sickness may defy rational explanation.

Strung (June 26th)

Peacock

Producers Jason Blum and Tyler Perry team up for this psychological horror about a violinist (Chloe Bailey) who takes a job as a music tutor for the gifted daughter of an influential, enigmatic family. As she becomes entangled in their world, disturbing secrets are revealed, and the teacher begins to question her safety.

Camp (June 26th)

Dark Sky Films

Haunted by guilt, a young woman (Zola Grimmer) takes a job as a counsellor at a remote Christian summer camp, where she soon joins a coven with potentially askew morals in this atmospheric sapphic witch tale.
