Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson share an unusual romance in the Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma trailer.
Dreamy, funny, bloody, and romantic, the trailer for Jane Schoenbrun’s new film teases the psychosexual love story between a queer director (Hannah Einbinder) rebooting a slasher franchise and the reclusive actress (Gillian Anderson) of its original Final Girl, who lives at the abandoned sleepaway camp from the film.
The trailer begins with the two characters sitting on a snowy porch while Anderson says in a half-whispered tone, “Out here, there are certain nights when you just get this feeling there’s some psycho killer who’s gonna chop you up into a million little pieces.” She adds, “I like that feeling” with a sense of grim delight shared by Einbinder’s character.
With wildly atmospheric visuals shot on 35mm, the trailer features outrageous gore, a summer camp slasher screening, and Anderson’s glamorous recluse hosting a KFC feast. It also reveals a closer look at the film’s slasher villain, Little Death. Jack Haven plays the ruthless Jason Voorhees-like figure, a killer with an air vent for a head and a spear for a weapon. Schoenbrun reunites with the actor after collaborating on I Saw the TV Glow.
Camp Miasma was awarded the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, where it screened in the Un Certain Regard section and was warmly received by critics. The film hits US theatres August 7th before arriving in the UK and Ireland on August 21st.
