Ariana Grande Goes Full American Psycho in Ultra-Bloody “Petal” Music Video
The singer and Wicked star returns with another horror-themed video

Ariana Grande has released the gory music video for “petal”, coinciding with the release of her album of the same name,
The clip, directed by frequent collaborator Christian Breslauer, sees the “Into You” singer play an aspiring actress who, after being rejected at an audition, dismembers a horde of boorish studio executives with a chainsaw. The video opens with a retro parental advisory and viewer warning, before Grande, playing an actress named Pepper, fills out an application for Fame Inc.
The music video satirises her star image, with the rude executives lamenting that they “miss the way [she] used to be” and that she now comes across as “inauthentic”. One suggests she “should try singing tenor” — perhaps a nod to the online criticism directed at her higher speaking voice, a deliberate technique she has used in recent years to support the health of her singing voice— before adding “ten or fifteen miles from here.” Grande then screams and lip-syncs as she murders the four men.
The ultra-violent video follows the horror-tinged clip for “hate that i made you love me”, the lead single from petal, in which scream king Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers, Tusk, Barbarian) is haunted by the Wicked star after he buries her alive.
A long-time horror fan, Grande starred in the satirical slasher comedy series Scream Queens and was slated to appear in American Horror Story: 13 before having to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with The Eternal Sunshine Tour.
