The Jennifer’s Body sequel appears to be moving forward.
While 20th Century Studios has yet to officially announce the sequel, Production Weekly has listed that Jennifer’s Body 2 is set to shoot this October in Vancouver, with original stars Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried returning. Dread Central has confirmed Fox’s involvement in the follow-up to the queer cult classic.
Production Weekly has also listed that Diablo Cody (Lisa Frankenstein) and Karyn Kusama (Yellowjackets) are returning to write and direct Jennifer’s Body 2, respectively.
Speaking with Deadline last autumn, Kusama told Deadline, “I know some of the bones of it, so I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.”
While the original film was a box office failure, Jennifer’s Body has since achieved a cult classic status that has made the follow-up a possibility. Seyfried has teased the sequel repeatedly on recent press tours, which may well have been a tactic to generate buzz for the film, especially when she told multiple outlets that Mamma Mia 3 was happening before it was confirmed by NBCUniversal Entertainment chairman Donna Langley this February.
“I think I felt the most like myself, as an artist, when I wrote Jennifer’s Body,” Diablo Cody told Phantasmag earlier this year. “At the time, I didn’t really get the opportunity to do more horror comedy because Jennifer’s Body flopped so hard, but then it found an audience later on, and I was able to do Lisa Frankenstein, and I was able to get attached to [Forbidden Fruits]. So I feel like I’m back where I belong.”
