Gillian Anderson wants to work with Robert Eggers.

Speaking with Club Ciné’s Editor-in-Chief Tom Macklin at a special preview of Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, the latest genre-bending queer horror film from I Saw the TV Glow director Jane Schoenbrun, Anderson singled out The Witch director as a filmmaker who would tempt her to return to the horror genre.

“I had a really fantastic meeting with Robert Eggers a few years ago,” she said. “I’d be interested in working with him, because what I’ve seen of his work is fucking unbelievable. He’s a genius.”

Anderson also revealed that she was trying to develop “a couple of different things” with Jason Blum years ago. She commented that most, if not all of, the projects she was offered “involved a haunted house of some kind.”

The X-Files actress is currently starring opposite Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) in the romantic meta slasher Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Speaking with Phantasmag, Anderson credited director Jane Schoenbrun with opening “a portal into horror as an adult” for her after a traumatic experience watching The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a teen. She reiterated the sentiment at Club Ciné’s London screening at the Selfridges Cinema.

“I don’t think, until Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, that I understood what the bigger conversation around horror is and can be,” she reflected. “And also how valuable it is for some people, and in some people’s lives.”

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is now playing in US and UK cinemas.
