Ryan Murphy is making a vampire show.

The prolific TV producer (American Horror Story, The Shards) has revealed his next series will be a vampire story titled Brides of Blood. From the little context he has given about the show in interviews with Vanity Fair and The Hollywood Reporter, it appears it may be a reimagining centred on Dracula’s brides from Bram Stoker’s classic 1897 novel, Dracula.

“I’ve always wanted to do a vampire story,” he told THR this summer while promoting his Bret Easton Ellis adaptation The Shards. “And I always wondered why nobody has made a show about these characters I love [from a book and movie adaptation].”

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Murphy disclosed that the series will be titled Brides of Blood and that he is making it to “pay homage to my grandmother and what she loved—what we loved together.” Earlier in the same interview, he said that his grandmother’s favourite genres were “musicals and Dracula”.

Brides of Blood will begin shooting in December in Europe. In addition, Ryan Murphy has new seasons for mystery horror series The Watcher and soapy courtroom drama All’s Fair on the way, while a reboot of hit musical comedy series Glee is in development.

Murphy’s cult anthology series American Horror Story is currently airing its thirteenth season, an all-star instalment that sees franchise veterans Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Jessica Lange return to the series. Murphy has previously explored vampire storylines in two of the show’s previous seasons, Season 5 (Hotel, with Lady Gaga as a bloodsucking Countess) and Season 10 (Red Tide, the first of the two-parter Double Feature).
