From slasher-set queer romances to sensual glam rock musicals, we’ve got you covered for your Valentine’s Day horror movie date night. As you might expect, there are quite a few vampire movies.
Daughters of Darkness (1971)

In a nearly deserted seaside Belgian hotel, there are only four guests: a newlywed couple, famed bloodsucker Countess Elizabeth Báthory, and her “secretary”. More or less every feasible romantic pairing between these characters is explored in this erotic thriller and lesbian vampire classic.
The Hunger (1983)

This cult erotic horror film explores a love triangle between a doctor (Susan Sarandon) and a vampire couple (Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie). If you’re not sold by that logline, we don’t know what to tell you.
Fear Street Trilogy (2021)

Leigh Janiak’s slasher trilogy, a time-jumping horror summer event released weekly in July 2021, is grounded by a tender lesbian romance between Deena/Sarah (Kiana Madeira) and Sam/Hannah (Olivia Scott Welch), whose timeless love story stretches from 1666 to 1994.
Interview with the Vampire (1994)

While the AMC series has made it explicit, one can’t deny the achingly obvious romantic tension between Lestat (Tom Cruise) and Louis (Brad Pitt) in Neil Jordan’s 1994 Anne Rice adaptation.
Hellraiser (1987)

While some may know the franchise for its heavy heapings of gore, the original Hellraiser is a gleeful destruction of the heteronormative home written and directed by a gay man (horror legend Clive Barker). Let’s not forget the Cenobites take inspiration from BDSM clubs.
Nadja (1994)

This David Lynch-produced arthouse horror film follows Dracula’s daughter, Nadja, in modern-day New York City. You can’t have too many lesbian vampires on one list.
Jennifer’s Body (2009)

From a razor-sharp Diablo Cody script, Karyn Kusama’s cult film is many things: a hilarious offbeat comedy, a feminist horror movie, and—perhaps above all else—a twisted love story between Jennifer (Megan Fox) and Needy (Amanda Seyfried).
Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)

In our books, the Gen-Z horror movie (and possibly the funniest satire of Gen-Z, period), Bodies Bodies Bodies centres a lesbian romance between Sophie (Amandla Stenberg) and Bee (Maria Bakalova) amidst the bloody chaos.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
© A24
An entry that needs no explanation, Rocky Horror is a riotous rock musical where any reservations regarding gender and sexuality are thrown out the window in the name of “absolute pleasure”.
Love Lies Bleeding (2024)

A genre-bending film if ever there was one, Rose Glass’ surreal horror crime thriller is a romance first and foremost. Lou (Kristen Stewart) and Jackie (Katy O’Brian) are a Bonnie and Clyde for the ages.
Bonus: Swallowed (2022)

Have you ever taken a parasitic drug that hatches larvae in your body with your crush? If you’re looking for a body horror Valentine’s, this is the freaky film for you.
