The first-look stills have been unveiled for Jane Schoenbrun’s highly anticipated third feature film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. After the widely-lauded I Saw the TV Glow, the writer-director is queering the slasher in a movie they describe as Portrait of a Lady on Fire set in a Friday the 13th sequel.
The press release, fittingly released on Friday the 13th, has revealed new details about the film’s plot:
After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director (Einbinder) for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie's star (Anderson), a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.

The film also stars Sorry Baby star and writer-director Eva Victor, Severance actor Zach Cherry, SNL’s Sarah Sherman, Jasmin Savoy Brown (the Scream franchise, Yellowjackets), and Jack Haven. Haven, who starred in Jane Schoenbrun’s last film, I Saw the TV Glow, is playing a character called “Little Death”.
When the film was announced last year, Schoenbrun released the following statement:
“I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid and Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is my best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic’: an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store.”
The film’s score will be composed by Alex G (‘TV Glow’), with vocals from Paul Buchanan of Scottish band The Blue Nile.
Produced by Plan B, MUBI will release the film in US theatres on August 7th, with an international release planned in select territories. Check out the teaser trailer below.
