Fresh off of her roles in three films premiering at Sundance, Charli xcx is gearing up to produce and star in a new horror film from Japanese auteur Takashi Miike.
Currently known as “Untitled Kyoto Project”, the film follows three friends who travel to Kyoto before their holiday is turned upside down when Charli’s character is possessed by a tortured spirit. Milly Alcock (Supergirl) and Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) also star, along with Sho Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice) and Kiko Mizuhara (Ride or Die). The project has been penned by Ross Evans, who also wrote the screenplay for Lorene Scafaria’s untitled Alice in Wonderland adaptation starring Sabrina Carpenter.
Speaking with the SmartLess podcast, the singer behind Brat said the following of the film:
“I’m really excited to work with Takashi Miike this year on this film that I’m going to produce, which is crazy to me to go to Japan and shoot with a horror auteur. I’m like, ‘This is insane.’”
The Moment actress is starring in another horror film later this year: Daniel Goldhaber’s remake of the 1978 film Faces of Death, which releases on April 10 from IFC and Shudder.
