Daniel Goldhaber (Cam, How to Blow Up a Pipeline) is directing the reimagining of the controversial 1978 cult film, a faux documentary presenting a series of deaths that were supposedly real—and some actually were. The 2026 update explores the “Is it real or not?” conceit as a content moderator (Barbie Ferreira) discovers what appear to be re-enactments of murders from the original film. Led by Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria), the Faces of Death cast includes Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things), Josie Totah (Carrie), Jermaine Fowler (The Blackening), and pop superstar Charli xcx.

Finally releasing from IFC and Shudder after lingering in distribution limbo, Faces of Death was filmed back in 2023, therefore marking Charli xcx’s first live-action performance. The Moment star is shooting another horror film this year: an untitled Kyoto-set possession story directed by Takashi Miike (Audition).

Director Daniel Goldhaber and writer Isa Mazzei explained that: “Faces of Death was one of the first viral video tapes, and we are so lucky to be able to use it as a jumping off point for this exploration of cycles of violence and the way they perpetuate themselves online.”
