From a ballerina survival thriller to a podcast horror nightmare, we’re celebrating our own kind of March Madness. With films starring Jessie Buckley, Samara Weaving, and Lola Tung, this month sees another Frankenstein adaptation, scream queen Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to the genre, and hopefully a new camp classic.

Rod Blackhurst’s tribute to 70s slashers, a gritty thriller shot on 16mm film, hits both US and UK theatres after charming critics and audiences at Fantastic Fest. The creepy premise follows a young woman (Fabiànne Thérèse) who gets abducted by a masked figure intent on raising her as their own child.

The Bride! (March 6th)

Mary Shelley meets Bonnie and Clyde. While Elsa Lanchester had only a few minutes of screen time in 1935’s Bride of Frankenstein, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s film zeroes in on this iconic but under-explored figure. Christian Bale plays the monster (known simply as Frank) while Hamnet star and Oscar favourite Jessie Buckley takes on the title role.

undertone (March 13th)

When a podcast host (Nina Kiri) listens to a series of eerie recordings from an anonymous email, she starts to notice disturbing parallels between the files and her life. This aural nightmare, a favourite of ours from Sundance, has already got Ian Tuason the gig of directing the next Paranormal Activity.

Scared to Death (March 13th)

A production assistant (Olivier Paris) proposes to his boss that the cast and crew of their upcoming horror film should attend a real séance. Instead of a whimsically spooky experience, the group finds themselves trapped in a children’s shelter with the spirits of murdered orphans. Esteemed horror actress Lin Shaye (Insidious) stars.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (March 20th)

After surviving a rather high-stakes game of “Hide and Seek”, Final Girl Grace (Samara Weaving) is subjected to another round when four rival families compete to hunt her and her sister (Kathryn Newton) down. Horror legends David Cronenberg and Sarah Michelle Gellar also star.

Vampires of the Velvet Lounge (March 20th)

This grindhouse horror comedy follows a glamorous coven of vampires in the deep south who target their prey through dating apps. The film features Severance star Dichen Lachman and Mena Suvari (American Beauty) as famed bloodsucker Elizabeth Báthory.

When five squabbling elite ballerinas are trapped in a remote inn by a bitter former prodigy (Uma Thurman), the group must band together to survive the night in this horror action-comedy. Lana Condor (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Avantika (Tarot), Maggie Ziegler (My Old Ass), Iris Apatow (Tell Me Lies), and Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place) star.

Something Very Bad is Going to Happen (March 26th)

Billed as a visual blend of Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby, the Netflix series follows Rachel (Camila Morrone, Daisy Jones & The Six) and Nicky (Adam DiMarco, undertone) in the week leading up to their wedding. With a title like that, and directors hailing from American Horror Story and Killing Eve, we don’t expect the nuptials to go smoothly.

Forbidden Fruits (March 27th)

The Craft meets Mean Girls in this campy horror comedy from producer Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body). Set in a Dallas mall, three witches (Lili Reinhart, Victoria Pedretti, and Alexandra Shipp) see their sisterhood put to the test when their coven takes in fresh blood (Lola Tung). Emma Chamberlain and Gabrielle Union also star.

The Serpent’s Skin (March 27th)

© Dark Star Pictures

A witchy sapphic horror film in the mould of a 90s TV pilot, The Serpent’s Skin is as indebted to the early films of Gregg Araki as it is to Buffy. The latest from trans horror auteur Alice Maio Mackay sees a young woman (Alexandra McVicker) develop dangerous supernatural abilities—powers that she shares with her mysterious love interest (Avalon Fast). The film opens March 27th in New York and April 3rd in Los Angeles, while playing at BFI Flare in London from March 21st.

They Will Kill You (March 27th)

A desperate woman (Zazie Beetz) accepts a job as a live-in housekeeper at a luxurious NYC high-rise. The catch? The building appears to be infested with a Satanic cult. Myha’la (Industry) and Patricia Arquette (Severance) also star in the Kill Bill-esque action horror film.
