Sinners took home the top prize at the Actor Awards, with three of the five acting gongs in the film categories going to performances in horror movies.

Ryan Coogler’s period vampire thriller won Best Ensemble Cast at the ceremony formerly known as the SAG Awards, while Michael B. Jordan earned a surprise victory in the Best Actor category over favourite Timothée Chalamet. The double-win is a significant turning point this awards season, with the Oscars race becoming decidedly more uncertain after One Battle After Another had swept the major categories in previous awards shows.

Meanwhile, Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for her scene-stealing role as Aunt Gladys in Weapons. After securing her first nomination at the Actor Awards, Madigan triumphed in a hotly-contested category. Her victory makes for an unpredictable Best Supporting Actress race heading into the Oscars, with Sinners star Wunmi Mosaku and One Battle After Another actress Teyana Taylor having won at the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes, respectively.

The three victories cement a huge night for horror cinema and promise an exciting Oscars ceremony this March 15th.
