A24 has released “Burial”, the first track from the companion album to upcoming horror-tinged psychosexual thriller Mother Mary. Performed by Anne Hathaway as the titular character and penned by Jack Antonoff, Charli xcx, George Daniel, and Hathaway, the ethereal synth pop song is the first from a Greatest Hits album set to release alongside the film, which hits theatres April 17th.
Mother Mary, the latest from The Green Knight and A Ghost Story director David Lowery, follows Hathaway as an iconic pop star billed as a Lady Gaga/Taylor Swift hybrid. Old wounds resurface when she reunites with her estranged costume designer (Michaela Coel) on the eve of her comeback performance. Hunter Schafer, Kaia Gerber, and FKA twigs also star.
Lowery has cited Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula as an influence on the “psychosexual pop opera”. He screened the film for the cast and crew, and “it blew everyone’s minds.”
