In honour of Star Wars Day, we’re highlighting 10 horror films starring the cast of the famed sci-fi franchise. From a rare Harrison Ford supernatural thriller to Natalie Portman’s Oscar-winning turn in Black Swan, we’re counting down a host of genre films featuring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Christopher Lee, Oscar Isaac, Ewan McGregor, and more.

Harrison Ford - What Lies Beneath (2000)

DreamWorks

Marking one of Ford’s rare horror roles, the Han Solo actor stars opposite Michelle Pfeiffer in Robert Zemeckis’ atmospheric hit thriller. The pair play married empty nesters adjusting to their new life, but Pfeiffer’s character soon becomes convinced that their lakeside Vermont home is haunted by a woman.

Carrie Fisher - Scream 3 (2000)

Miramax

Gracing the famed slasher series with a playful meta cameo, Fisher plays a studio archivist who bears an uncanny resemblance to, well, Carrie Fisher. She explains that she was “this close” to playing Princess Leia, but the role went to “the one who [slept] with George Lucas.”

Oscar Isaac - Frankenstein (2025)

Netflix

After playing pilot Poe Dameron in The Force Awakens catapulted him to mainstream success, Isaac took on the title role in Guillermo del Toro’s epic adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic Gothic tale of a mad scientist who makes a reanimated monster (Jacob Elordi) from stitched-together body parts.

Mark Hamill - Village of the Damned (1995)

Universal

The Luke Skywalker actor plays the local minister in John Carpenter’s eerie tale, the second adaptation of John Wyndham’s 1957 novel The Midwich Cuckoos, about 10 creepy children born under mysterious circumstances in a sleepy coastal Californian village.

Natalie Portman - Black Swan (2010)

Searchlight Pictures

One of only eight stars to win an Oscar for a performance in a horror movie, the Padmé Amidala actress plays a young ballerina who descends into madness as she becomes obsessed with playing the lead role in Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.

Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing - Dracula (1958)

Hammer

Before they played Count Dooku and Grand Moff Tarkin, Lee and Cushing were the eminent scream kings of the mid-20th century, starring in a variety of Hammer horror films. Lee was the titular bloodsucker in the 1958 Dracula adaptation, while Cushing played vampire killer Van Helsing.

John Boyega - Attack the Block (2011)

StudioCanal

Before playing Finn in the sequel trilogy, Boyega made his film debut as the lead in Joe Cornish’s gory horror comedy about a teenage gang who have to defend themselves when a horde of aliens invade a council estate.

Ewan McGregor - Doctor Sleep (2019)

Warner Bros.

Playing Obi-Wan in both the prequel trilogy and the 2022 Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries, McGregor played the lead in Mike Flanagan’s (The Haunting of Hill House) acclaimed sequel to The Shining, which earned Stephen King’s approval after the author was famously unhappy with how Stanley Kubrick adapted the original novel.

Ian McDiarmid - Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Paramount

His scenes as Emperor Palpatine may border on horror themselves, but McDiarmid starred in an all-out chiller with Tim Burton’s adaptation of the infamous American ghost story. He plays the town doctor in this moody, bloody tribute to Hammer horror films.

Liam Neeson - The Haunting (1999)

DreamWorks

In addition to starring as Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace, Neeson’s other 1999 film role saw him join Catherine Zeta-Jones and Owen Wilson in Jan de Bont’s adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s gothic novel The Haunting of Hill House, nearly two decades before Mike Flanagan reimagined it as a hit Netflix series.
