Why Slayyyter Has a Lynchian Bunny Man Lurking in Her Music Videos
The “Daddy AF” singer calls David Lynch “her idol”

Following her packed, high-energy Coachella set, we’re looking at the David Lynch-inspired imagery of Slayyyter’s new album, WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA.
Inspired by the rabbits in David Lynch’s Inland Empire, Slayyyter has put a man in a disturbing bunny costume in multiple music videos—for tracks from abrasive electro-pop banger “CRANK” to the surf-rock inspired “CANNIBALISM!”—for her new record, WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA. The American pop star, who has directed her own videos this album cycle, has also worn a pair of bunny ears as a signature look for this era.
“A rabbit is something that feels very innocent and childlike, almost,” she told Coco Mocoe. “But the bunny man, that suit, it’s so menacing-looking and creepy. There’s something perverted about him lurking in the corner of a room.”
The “Mine” singer added that Lynch’s influence wasn’t limited to the bunny man. “Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Inland Empire, everything has been on this mood board [for the album]. He’s my idol.”
Slayyyter previously paid homage to Lynch’s Blue Velvet on her album Starfucker, from a lyrical nod on the track “Dramatic” to the cover depicting a lounge singer inspired by Isabella Rossellini’s character in the film.
