Victorian Psycho will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section ahead of a September 25th release.
Adapted from Virginia Feito’s novel of the same name, billed as Jane Eyre meets American Psycho, Victorian Psycho follows a young governess (Maika Monroe) who arrives at a remote manor. As she assimilates into life at Ensor House, staff members begin to inexplicably disappear in this wintry Gothic horror story.
Replacing The Substance star Margaret Qualley, Maika Monroe plays the title character in Victorian Psycho. The role further cements her Scream Queen status, following her turns in Longlegs, It Follows, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Watcher, Villains, and Significant Other.
Monroe is joined by Thomasin McKenzie, who returns to the horror genre following her roles in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old and Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho. Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus,Honey Bunch) and Ruth Wilson (I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House) also star.
Victorian Psycho will play at Cannes next month in Un Certain Regard, a parallel section to the competition for the Palme d’Or. The film joins Jane Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma as a major horror film screening in the section.
