Hulu’s X-Files reboot from Ryan Coogler has added Amy Madigan (Weapons), Steve Buscemi (Wednesday), Ben Foster (Christy), Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale), and more as guest stars. Fresh off his Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Sinners, Coogler is executive producing the series and writing and directing the pilot.
Madigan joins the reboot after winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as the enigmatic villain Aunt Gladys in Zach Cregger’s Weapons, marking one of only eight horror movie performances to win an Academy Award.
Devery Jacobs, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D. Montgrand, and Sofia Grace Clifton round out the eight confirmed guest stars. They board the project after Danielle Deadwyler (The Woman in the Yard) and Himesh Patel (The Odyssey) were cast in the lead roles as two FBI agents “assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”

Playing new protagonists in this follow-up to the hit sci-fi series created by Chris Carter, Deadwyler and Patel follow Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny as the show’s central duo. The X-Files ran from 1993 to 2002, before being revived for a 10th and 11th season, released in 2016 and 2018, respectively. The franchise also spawned two feature films.
Ryan and Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian of Proximity Media will executive produce the series, alongside Chris Carter and Jennifer Yale. Yale (The Copenhagen Test) will serve as showrunner.
Speaking to CBR during the Tron: Ares press tour last year, Gillian Anderson suggested that she may reprise her role in the series. “There may be a certain point, if Ryan Coogler does get X-Files off the ground, that I would dip into Scully again under his tutelage.”
