Receiving the Keys to the Pavilion award at the Marché du Film’s Fantastic Pavilion in Cannes, Suspiria director Dario Argento revealed he will produce a trilogy of genre films directed by Gabriele Altobelli.

Dubbed the “Maestro of Horror” and celebrated for his influential work in the giallo subgenre, the 85-year-old director is known for Suspiria, Deep Red, Phenomena, Tenebrae, and more horror hits.

The first of the three Argento-produced films, Carne della Mia Carne (Flesh of My Flesh), explores “the evil next door” and follows three mothers as they investigate the disappearance of a teenage girl. Ilenia Pastorelli stars, after leading Argento’s last feature, Dark Glasses (2022). With filming having taken place in April in Latina, local news outlet Latina Oggi reports that Argento is also writing the script for the first film in addition to producing. The official website of Cinecittà S.p.A., an organisation operating through the Italian Ministry of Culture, confirms the information and lists that he is writing the entire trilogy.

While filming has wrapped on Flesh of My Flesh, the next two instalments are scheduled for production in autumn 2026 and 2027, respectively. As reported by Italian film outlet Fuori Campo, the second film, The Girl with Crystal Eyes, follows a businessman and a mysterious woman embroiled in a spiral of passion and murder. Meanwhile, the final entry, The Black Velvet Mask (filming 2027), centres on three women united by the nightmare of a man in a black velvet mask, whose face they cannot remember even after they unmask him.

Argento and Mattia’s Film are producing the films, with Neo Art handling international sales.
