Sarah Michelle Gellar and Rudy Pankow have signed on to star as the leads in the supernatural romance Thud.

When the Grim Reaper (Gellar) and the Devil (Pankow) arrive at a three-day destination wedding ready to sow chaos, they stumble into a meet-cute in the upcoming film.

Thud will see Gellar reunite with Radio Silence’s Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin after starring in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. The filmmaking duo will serve as executive producers, while Mali Elfman (Next Exit) directs from an original screenplay by Noga Pnueli, whose previous credits include the 2022 dark sci-fi rom-com Meet Cute starring Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson.

Pankow is known for Outer Banks and Reminders of Him, while Gellar is recognised as a scream queen for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream 2, The Grudge, and more.

The film will be produced by Derek Bishé (Perpetrator) and David Grove Churchill Viste (How to Blow Up a Pipeline. In addition to Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin, executive producers include Helmstreet Productions’ Lindsay Helms and Joel Nevells (Queens of the Dead) and Divide/Conquer’s Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks (Faces of Death).

Thud is set to shoot in Los Angeles with a California tax credit.
