20th Century Studios has released the teaser trailer for survival horror thriller Whalefall.

When scuba diver Jay Gardiner (Austin Abrams) goes looking for the remains of his father (Josh Brolin) off the Californian coast, he is swallowed by a 60-ton sperm whale. With only one hour of oxygen in his tank, Jay is trapped in a race against time to escape the belly of the beast.

Whalefall sees Brian Duffield, director of alien invasion thriller No One Will Save You, adapt Daniel Kraus’ 2023 novel of the same name. Duffield also has extensive credits in genre film as a screenwriter, penning The Babysitter, Underwater, and Love and Monsters.

Abrams and Brolin are joined by Elisabeth Shue (The Boys), Jane Levy (Evil Dead), John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island), and Emily Rudd (the Fear Street trilogy). The underwater scenes were shot in a tank built at California’s Radford Studio Center.

Whalefall marks another horror project for Abrams following his roles in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, The Walking Dead, and Zach Cregger’s 2025 hit Weapons. He will reunite with Cregger in the Resident Evil reboot, coming to theatres this September.
