Netflix has unveiled the teaser for Below, a new six-episode horror series.
Below follows a small community off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, plagued by a mysterious sea monster. Fighting the creature are Josh Hartnett (Trap, Oppenheimer), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), and Mackenzie Davis (Speak No Evil).
Blending local myth, family drama, and creature-driven horror, Below was created by Jesse McKeown (The Umbrella Academy). Jamie Childs (The Sandman), Helen Shaver (The Penguin), and Stephen Dunn (Queer as Folk) are directing, while the writing staff includes Karen Walton, the screenwriter behind Canadian horror cult classic Ginger Snaps.
Below sees Hartnett return to the horror genre after his leading roles in Trap, 30 Days of Night, and The Faculty. The actor plays Calvin Penney, a big-hearted fisherman who’s still haunted by his father’s mysterious disappearance from decades ago. He’s also a single father of three, with Ruby Stokes (Lockwood & Co.), Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends), and Heaton playing his children. The role marks Heaton’s first as a series regular since his breakout turn in the sci-fi horror phenomenon Stranger Things.
Meanwhile, Mackenzie Davis, who recently led the 2024 psychological horror Speak No Evil, stars as Fonda Howander, a visiting marine researcher who teams up with Calvin to take down the sea creature.
Below premieres October 8th on Netflix. Watch the teaser trailer and see stills below.
