American Horror Story is returning for another season.
Ahead of next week’s Season 13 finale, FX has renewed AHS for Season 14. The news comes after creator Ryan Murphy expressed interest in continuing the show indefinitely, despite the belief that the all-star thirteenth season, which saw several original cast members return, would be the last.
Season 14 will follow AHS: 13, a “greatest hits” instalment of the celebrated anthology show that has seen series veterans like Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and Kathy Bates all return. Lange says that Murphy initially told her it would be the final season.
FX’s announcement marks AHS’ first renewal in almost seven years, after Seasons 11, 12, and 13 were confirmed in January 2020. “I’m working on Season 14 as we speak,” Ryan Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter this August. “In terms of, What’s the idea? and, Who wants to be in it?”
“I have a great passion for [AHS], and [FX boss] John Landgraf has a great passion for that show,” Murphy elaborated. “It’s a very important show in my career. It’s something that John said, ‘As long as you want to keep making them, I’ll keep airing them.’ That’s always been the idea behind it, which is very empowering.”
AHS: 13 airs through October 29th on FX in the US and is streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
