Fathom Entertainment

The recipient of the longest-standing ovation in the Cannes Film Festival’s history (22 minutes), Guillermo del Toro’s masterpiece, a horror fairytale about a little girl who discovers a fantasy land at a military outpost in 1944 Francoist Spain, returns to cinemas with a 4K restoration and 3D conversion achieved without AI per the director’s request.

Haunted Hotel (Streaming on Netflix)

Returning for its second season, this animated horror sitcom about a single mom (Eliza Coupe) running a hotel with the ghost of her brother (Will Forte) is back with new spirits, new employees, and new evils to overcome.

Carrie (Streaming on Prime Video)

Amazon MGM Studios

Arriving 50 years after Brian De Palma’s classic film adaptation, Stephen King’s debut novel about a bullied girl (Summer H. Howell) with telekinetic powers is getting a modern reimagining about the horrors of social media from The Haunting of Hill House showrunner Mike Flanagan. Matthew Lillard co-stars.

Below (Streaming on Netflix)

Netflix

In this limited series, Josh Hartnett (Trap, The Faculty) returns to the horror genre as a fisherman who must defend his small coastal Canadian town from a terrifying sea monster. Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) and Mackenzie Davis (Speak No Evil) also star.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (Streaming on MUBI)

MUBI

Described by director Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow) as “Portrait of a Lady on Fire set in a Friday the 13th sequel”, this queer horror romance follows a young director (Hannah Einbinder) rebooting a slasher franchise who becomes obsessed with the original movie’s Final Girl (Gillian Anderson).

Other Mommy (In Theatres)

Universal

In this stylish samurai-coded action thriller, a devoutly religious hitman’s (two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali) life is turned upside down when his wife dies. As dangerous forces close in on him, he embarks on a desperate journey to protect his children.

V/H/S/MIXTAPE (Streaming on Shudder)

Shudder

The found footage horror anthology series returns with a new collection of segments, this time united by the theme of music and sound as a source of terror. Guest directors include Ernest Dickerson (The Walking Dead) and rapper RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, with the stories involving cursed music videos and creepy puppet shows.

Beware Boiúna (In US Theatres)

Lionsgate

In this gory monster movie from Mike P. Nelson (who has already been tapped to helm the next Saw film), a medical mission deep in the Amazon turns into a fight for survival when an ancient, giant snake awakens. Kiana Madeira (the Fear Street trilogy) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) star.

Ghost in the Cell (In US Theatres)

Well Go USA

An outrageous horror comedy that bills itself as decidedly not “elevated horror”, Indonesian genre film specialist Joko Anwar finds grim, gruesome fun in a high-security prison.
