Another beloved creepypasta is getting a film adaptation.
The cryptic teaser for The Third Parent promises a new chilling internet IP adaptation after the success of Backrooms. Adapted from Elias Witherow’s story posted to the r/nosleep subreddit, the film follows a Fourth of July celebration disrupted by a mysterious figure (Crispin Glover) looking to terrorise an unsuspecting family (Rob Lowe, Roselyn Sánchez, and Rafael de Beligny).
The Third Parent will see Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities star Crispin Glover return to the horror genre. He plays Tommy Taffy, the creepypasta’s antagonist whose uncanny face resembles a doll with skin “almost like soft plastic”.
Beginning like a found footage nightmare, the teaser features photographs of eerie children’s drawings and photographs from York, England (1870), Modena, Italy (1949), and more, alluding to the previous families that Tommy Taffy has visited.
The teaser trailer ends with Lowe’s character, Cap Hollow, opening the door to Taffy, before a close-up reveals the villain’s shirt, which, like the original story, reads “Hi” in a “red cartoon font”.
