One of our most anticipated upcoming genre films, Is God Is looks set to be a raucous grindhouse reinvention.
The new revenge thriller from Amazon and Orion Pictures stars Kara Young and Mallori Johnson as twin sisters on the hunt for their villainous father (Sterling K. Brown), listed in the film’s trailer simply as “The Monster”. Aleshea Harris’ feature directorial debut adapts her Obie-winning play of the same name, with Tessa Thompson producing.
Years after their father disfigured them in a fire, twin sisters Racine (Young) and Anaia (Johnson) are ordered by their dying mother (Kill Bill’s Vivica A. Fox) to “make [their] daddy dead—real dead.” The pair embark on a dangerous road trip, meeting a zany cast of characters (Janelle Monaé, Erika Alexander, Mykelti Williamson, Josiah Cross) along the way.
The high-octane, hyper-stylised trailer, featuring gritty celluloid aesthetics and soundtracked by Beyonce’s “YA YA”, promises a blood-soaked, cross-country quest for revenge. Watch it below.
