The Weapons prequel has added a screenwriter and received a working title.

Following Amy Madigan’s Oscar win, her enigmatic Weapons villain Aunt Gladys will take centre stage in an upcoming prequel film for New Line and Warner Bros. The studios have given the film a working title: Gladys.

The film will be penned by Weapons writer-director Zach Cregger alongside Zach Shields. The screenwriter is known for Krampus and Godzilla vs. Kong, while also forming half of horror-themed rock duo Dead Man’s Bones with Ryan Gosling. Shields has also written a treatment for a sequel to Trick ‘r Treat.

Speaking at a press conference at the Oscars following her win, Madigan said the following about the Gladys prequel: “If it worked out, that would be great because I trust Zach [Cregger], and he’s got a lot of wack ideas in his head.”

Cregger's next film is a Resident Evil reboot, which hits theatres this September.
