Widow’s Bay has made Emmy history as the most-awarded comedy series in a single season, breaking the record previously set last year by The Studio. Its 14 Emmys include Lead Actor (Matthew Rhys), Supporting Actress (Kate O’Flynn), and Comedy Series.

Since its premiere this April, Widow’s Bay, Apple TV’s series about a cursed coastal New England town, has become a resounding hit, drawing acclaim from critics and audiences alike for its seamless blend of horror and comedy.

In a sweep, the series finished the night with 14 wins out of a potential 16, having secured 19 nominations in total. Matthew Rhys additionally made history himself after winning Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for The Beast in Me alongside his Widow’s Bay victory. He is now the only person to ever win in two Lead Actor categories in a single night.

The series has already been renewed for a second season. Speaking with Screen Rant at TIFF, Kate O’Flynn recently teased that they expect to film the next instalment starting next March.

“We also wanted to thank the evil entity on the island that trusted us with its story, showrunner and creator Katie Dippold quipped in her acceptance speech for Outstanding Comedy Series.
