After series like Below and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Netflix has lined up its next horror show.

On Halloween night, an all-girls dance squad tumbles into Catholic guilt, unholy desires, and ghostly visions when an initiation goes to hell in The Body, an upcoming series described by showrunner Quinn Shephard as “a love letter to all 90s and Y2K teen movies and erotic thrillers.” After the initiation goes wrong, the girls begin having prophetic visions that set off mass hysteria in their town.

“Tonally, I would describe the show as gritty camp,” showrunner Quinn Shephard says of The Body, citing films like Carrie, Jennifer’s Body, Heavenly Creatures, and Mean Girls as inspirations. “It’s satirising some of the trauma of growing up queer and repressed and the confusion around that.”

The Body marks the second series as showrunner for Shephard, who is known for writing and directing the Zoey Deutch satirical black comedy Not Okay, after her work on the acclaimed true crime drama series Under the Bridge with Lily Gladstone.

Billed as “a raunchy teen psychodrama with a dash of Catholic horror”, The Body features Kristina Bogic (Playing Gracie Darling), Sara Boustany (PEN15), Geena Meszaros (Wayward), Nnamdi Asomugha (The Savant), Louisa Krause (King Kelly), Shirley Chen (Slanted), Jackson Kelly (The Pitt), and Sofia Wylie (The Map that Leads to You) in the main cast, with The Traitors and The Bachelorette star Gabby Windey recurring as the dance team coach.

All eight episodes of The Body hit Netflix on November 11th.
