Inde Navarrette has booked her first lead role since Obsession.
The in-demand 25-year-old actress will star in The Waffle House Index, a sci-fi thriller centring on a Waffle House waitress whose already taxing night shift turns into a surreal nightmare involving an armed stranger, killer crocodiles, a magical bunker, and aliens. Navarrette will also executive produce the film.
Apple Original Films has picked up the film, while Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment (Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma) is producing. Louis Paxton, whose acclaimed Sundance comedy The Incomer with Domhnall Gleeson hits theatres this month, will direct, adapting a script by Andrew Nunnelly. The script was featured on the 2025 Black List, and is understood to have been acquired in a deal worth seven figures.
The film marks Navarrette’s first starring role since her breakout performance as Nikki in Curry Barker’s horror phenomenon Obsession, which grossed over $500 million worldwide on a budget of only $750,000. The actress was also recently cast as Rogue in the MCU’s X-Men reboot, having been in the mix for several high-profile films.
The Waffle House Index borrows its title from an informal measuring system of a hurricane’s severity. The barometer gauges how much service is offered during unsafe conditions by an area’s Waffle House, a chain which operates virtually 24/7.
